This is a drop in, casual get together where we work on projects, help each other, and share inspiration and our love of needlework.  All levels and needle art–knitting, crocheting, cross-stitching, tatting, crewel, etc. are welcome.

The trees were beautifully decorated, homemade chicken noodle soup and chili was delicious, the raffle prizes were awesome, items from the Sweet Shoppe yummy and Grandmas’ Attic sold a bunch!

O’Tannenbaum…A Festival of Trees is a fund raising event for the Library’s Building Fund presented by GFWC Bennington Women’s Club and the Friends of the Library.

November is Read Aloud to a Child Month; to celebrate the Bennington Public Library will be holding after school reading activities during the weeks of November 7 and November 14.  Children of all ages are encouraged to join the library staff and guest readers for stories and afterschool snacks on Thursday, November 10 and 17 from 3:30 – 4:30 PM in the Library-Community Room.  Come and enjoy great read aloud stories, fun craft activities and yummy snacks all free of charge.

Parents and other caregivers can learn how to develop these important skills through the library’s Every Child Ready to Read® workshops,
which:

• Demonstrate how to help children learn early literacy
  skills.
• Engage adults and children in fun activities that use simple
  but powerful learning experiences.
• Send parents and caregivers home with early literacy
  activities to incorporate into everyday routines.
• Free children’s book for all participants.

Upcoming Workshops at the Bennington Public Library

Parent Workshop – 50 minutes for adults only

Parents, grandparents, and other caregivers learn why it’s important for children to get ready to read starting at birth and the essential role of parents and other caregivers in developing early literacy skills.  Participants learn how to use the five early literacy practices to nurture early literacy skills. The workshop includes discussion, demonstration, and activities. Handouts include “Get Ready to Read at Home” about creating an effective and affordable early literacy environment at home. This workshop, which lasts 50–55 minutes, is for adults only.

Fun for Parents and Children Workshop – 45 minutes for parents/caregivers and their children birth to age 5.

Parents and other caregivers, along with children, engage in talking, singing, reading, writing, and playing activities that develop early literacy skills. This introduction to the five early literacy practices is for children from birth to age five and lasts 45–50 minutes.

In Celebration of Library Card Sign-up Month and to encourage library card usage at the Bennington Public Library, the Library will hold a drawing for a free Kobo Digital E-reader.  Each Individual who signs up for a Bennington Public Library Card in September will be entered into the drawing.  In addition, each time a current Bennington Public Library patron presents his/her library card at checkout he/she will also be entered into the drawing.

Runza’s Great Book for Great Kids is also in September.  On Tuesday, September 27th Runza will donate 15% of sales all day to the Bennington Pubic Library to help purchase books for children.  Help Runza Restaurants provide Great Books for Great Kids!  Thank you, Runza!!!

The event will feature fun water activities including Coral Reef Splash inflatable water slide, Downpour Derby, dunk tank, water balloon contests, and yummy sweet treats such as snow cones, lemonade and cotton candy!

Bennington Elementary Principal Chad Boyes will be back this Saturday to take a turn in the dunk tank at the library summer reading finale.

Dunk tank victims will include Bennington Elementary School Principal Chad Boyes, Pine Creek Elementary School Principal Shannon Thoendel, Cubby’s Manager Sean Juett, and Runza Manager Zac Johns.

The Summer Reading Prize Drawing of many cool games, puzzles, books and more will also take place, including the teen reading incentive prize drawing for a free E-Reader.
